But a car has a shaped beam, and has it for a reason. The reasons to run a round beam light aren't entirely without merit, though I think a proper shaped beam is in general far better for traffic use. It also has the advantage of putting the most light where it is the most useful, allowing use of a smaller light source and therefore smaller battery or longer runtime (might save at least a few ounces, if you care).
