I'm not familiar with the Wellgo 713s, but I know on some pedals, there is a plate directly under the cleat. Perhaps the plate and cleat have a lot of friction. I do know this plate is a huge problem with mud build-up. I've owned a couple of sets of Shimano 520s and agree they are an outstanding pedal for the money. Easy to get into, out of and the "open" pedal design helps shed mud.
