Radial on front will be fine. Don't even think about putting it on the rear, your power transfer will blow. Although radial non-drive side in the rear can be cool. Very cool. 3x on the other side?

As for strength, 14ga will be pretty bombproof, possibly overkill if you're a light rider. So if you don't treat your bike super nice (and why should you) then that might be good. If you want to save a little rotating weight consider butted spokes to keep some strength.

If you search, I'm sure there's plenty of info on the different spoke options.

Oh yeah, and the thing about good expensive spokes, very true. I work with DT a lot. Good stuff. Check out www.icyclesusa.com for good prices per spoke, so you don't have to buy a gross of every size.
