Guyon's Canal Syndrome and GT Avalanche 1.0

I appear to have Guyon's Canal Syndrome (let me know if i need to post more about this) brought on by riding my GT Avalanche 1.0 long distances.

Or to put it a different way...I am a large guy and I put too much weight on my hands durring long rides. I don't think I canpoint the front of the seat up without affecting another large item. I am thinking I should raise the handlebars in some way.

What can I change on the bike in the handle bar area to reduce the weight I am putting on my hands?

I am not a speed racer.
I am not single tracking.
I am just getting on the bike an going longer and longer distances as I get ready for a fall tour on this bike.

Maybe I should have posted this to the mechanical forum, but .....move it as needed.
