I recall asking a colleague about here vacation. She had a 5-day stay in Bermuda and I asked exactly what she did over those 5 days. Turned out much of it was reading books, hanging out on the beach.
Considering the high cost and the enormous discomfort in flying to a vacation (especially a short one...), I'm surprised more people don't opt for staying at home and reading books on the back porch.
We enjoy the occasional exotic location, but we go for the local flavor not to just hangout. If I want to read or laze around I will head for the nearest state park.
