It doesn't warp. There are plenty of varieties of wood that are very water resistant and, in the case of the kayak, I'll be covering it with fiberglass. So yes, really it's a fiberglass boat that uses wood for it's form and looks.

In the case of the older and larger boats (like the Chris-Craft) the mahogany holds up extremely well in water. The boats are usually left in the water because the wood swells which helps seal any gaps and make it water tight.

I'm guessing that most bikes are covered with at the very least an epoxy resin of some sort to provide some weather protection.
