Or it could be that those that are not suffering from dementia are able to do a wider variety of activities.
My great-grandmother was very active in a wide variety of activities before she started suffering from Alzheimer's. So were her two sons in their lives, and her daughter (my grandmother) as well.
My stepfather's mother played golf, had two bridge circles she played in, travelled frquently, and was really active up until about 2 years ago, and there's no polite way to describe her condition...she's toast.
