Not trying to hate on your method, but no screw will hold in drywall with a load on it like that. At the very minimum I would suggest hollow wall anchors if anyone else wants to make a similar rack. However even the hollow wall anchors holding our towel bars in the bathroom have loosened up over time. Best bet is to attach a piece of 3/4" plywood to the wall spanning 2 or 3 studs, and then attach your closet rod holders to that.
Sorry, I was replying vaguely. I agree that no screw will hold the bikes up. I used WingIts wall anchors attached to the 2x4, and then regular screws to attach the closet rod holders on to the 2x4 itself, just like you suggested. It will handle a 26lbs bike no problem.
