Either go back to the shop, or find a different shop. If you have lost faith in your current shop, then try a competing shop.
You have not ruined the bike. The part about snapping off the barrel adjusters is worrisome, because it's difficult to dial-in the cable adjustments without those. If they are the brake-lever barrel adjusters, it's easy and inexpensive to buy new ones.
