I've done GMR to the village on a sunny Christmas morning. I believe it is more around late Jan and Feb that ther might be more of a chance that the conditions may stop you. Maybe a week or two that it is not rideable.

Once Hillbasher and I rode up in Feb (?). Looked clear but we hit black ice about 4 miles before the village so we turned back.

This is a blog post from New Years eve. Wearing short sleeves, 72 degrees, nice sunny day. Check out the pictures.
