Not sure how size of the tire affects things, but I run 700x32 and I've gotten about 2500 miles out of a pair of Vittoria Randonneurs and Continental Contacts. My rear tires always wear out way faster than the fronts. I'm going to upgrade to Schwalbe Marathons. I hear they're the shnizzle as the kids these days would say.
