I would not willingly take Atlantic Ave either, as was stated, but you don't need to live in Queens to answer the OP. Take a Google look at his location. Do you see any viable alternative?? A bicycle can legally use ANY surface street between two points except those designated limited access roadways. The OP can use Atlantic Ave. to get into Brooklyn. Last I knew the Manhattan Bridge did not have bicycle access. The Brooklyn Bridge does and thousands upon thousands of cyclist use it daily. I worked at 49 Chambers Street for years. What would have been insane is to take the Manhattan Bridge and cycle downtown afterward. To go to the WFC, the Manhattan Bridge is even less viable. Please define "saner"? Is it the traffic, the peds? What exactly.
