I think it is the more butch components. My now rigid diamondback sorento has steel handlebars and low end everything else and it feels like twenty pounds with my surley fork, compared to my '05 rockhopper which feels like 32 but rides fine for me. Personally i am fine with it, considering how I am abusing it I figure it might last longer.
