Skate shoes (Van’s etc…) are thick soled and tough. I don't ride long times or miles, maybe 2+ hours and have had good results with them. Also if you shop some they can be had on sale, 20-30$ isn't unusual. They look different for us with a few years but can be had in not to wild designs or colors.
thats a good thought as I like flat bottom shoes, i can get those local for close to online prices, the standard heel on a pair of tennis shoes puts my foot at a wierd angle, i have to wear low heels
