To be fair, there is a night and day difference between the lives of urban dwellers in Cambodia vs. South Korea/Japan. In the countryside, the difference is even larger. I definitely would NOT lump southeast Asia (with a few megaurban exceptions) with JPN/KOR in any modern terms.
+1. Singapore - definitely, Cambodia - not so much.
Another travel ad: Khmer Rouge related tourist "attractions" such as the Killing Fields and S-21 are big in Cambodia, understandably. But if you (not you personally, acidfast) ever go there, visit other sights as well. Angkor Wat is simply astonishing, for example. Royal Palace in Phnom Penh, etc.
