Yep, I was trying to use the nut with a modified, non-quick release seatclamp to add rack mount eyelets to my seatpost. This is in addition to the normal quick-release seatclamp. The reason for the thumb nut was so that I could drop the seatpost without using a hex key. Not being able to use one isn't a huge deal because I always have a hex key on me or stashed in the places I'll be folding or unfolding.
The thumb nut would have been on the other side of the Salsa clamp as pictured.
