So if you're looking for something cheap, light and fireproof, why not see if you can dig up one of those metal cookie tins they sell biscuits and cakes in? They come round or square and most are light guage steel.
If you insist on a HUGE fire - guess you could stack two end-to-end. I expect the regulations regarding fire pits are an effort to keep the beach clean, so you should dump the cans in a garbage bin before leaving.
