Right, I agree as noted above, sizes are all over the board and there is no standardization among manufacturers. I am 5'9" with a 33" waist and I get an excellent fit with Giordana and Pearl Izume in Medium size.
However . . . with Santini I am not Medium but jump all the way up to Extra Large!
So yes, do try before you buy!
