To the west of Newark, DE, is Cecil County, MD. Lot's and lots of great roads with excellent shoulders. You can head west on Rt 273 to Rising Sun. Or, earlier, turn left on 272 toward NorthEast, a little marina town with great crabs/seafood and outdoor cafes. Loop back toward the north on Rt 7, left on 279, left again on 213 to form a loop.
