I have broken a few spokes over the years but only a couple have broken at the bead of the spoke the others have broken at the nipple and these were alloy nipples. I have quite a few bikes with wheels that have 20-36 spokes. I also tend to ride light, avoiding potholes, curbs and I stand when hitting bumps.
