The real bottom line is that cyclists on a MUP who run into pedestrians from behind are jerks, unless the pedestrian made some sudden change of direction immediately preceding the collision. Pedestrians' use of earphones are irrelevant, cyclists' shouted and/or obnoxious warnings that amount to nothing more than "look out, here I come" are unpleasant and unnecessary at best. Ride around the pedestrians at a safe distance, end of story.

Pedestrians ARE using earphones/cell phones, whatever on the MUP. Cyclists should get over it and ride accordingly on a MUP and not like obnoxious jackasses, or should get in the street and ride with the big kids.
