I have had three, from the first one that I got in 1982 to the last that I got earlier this year. I still have all three, in that I have not yet thrown them away. I did not have any trouble with mounting them. I did not have any trouble wiring them up. I never had any trouble with them slipping in the rain or the snow. But they have not treated me well. The trouble I've had, with all three, was in the bearing.

I rode a century on Saturday with the newest of these dynamos running LED's, and it was fine at first but gradually became noisier and noisier. I turned it off. But later on the weather got dark and wet, so I turned the thing back on, and for the last 40 miles of my ride it complained bitterly at any speed over 15 mph. It continued to put out power, and didn't seem to slow me down too much, but I hate my bike to be that loud. It was really annoying.

I'd love to hear from anyone who's overhauled one of these.
