I went to a Specialized dealer and they used their pad thing to measure my sit bones and make a recommendation for a saddle for me. I don't have a lot of experience, but the saddle I bought (a lower end Specialized in my size) has been noticeable better than the saddle that came on my bike. I've read enough here to know that chasing the right/best saddle can be difficult; the measurement helped me reduce that chase, I think.
