Haha, you said only hydros are proper disc brakes. My kinda gal. In all seriousness though, mechs are fine...I have them on one bike. They're not quite as nice as hydros, but they're still fine, especially if they're quality mechs. And sometimes good mechs are better than cheap hydros.
The Wildcat and Bolinas components are...pretty much the same. Go look at the website, they both have the same parts aside from the brakes.
The 26" and 29er Bolinas will absolutely ride and fit differently. The Wildcat and 26" Bolinas have a few subtle geometry differences, but most likely will ride pretty similarly.
