Getting a Clicking Noise When I Pedal

So I've got two bikes. One Trek FX 7.2 and one Trek DS 8.3.

On the FX 7.2, after a couple hundred miles, I started getting this clicking noise when I pedal. Like every time my left foot pushes down, I hear a click. I took it to the LBS and they tightened the crank and pedals, no change. During this same time, I was breaking spokes on the rear wheel of this bike. The LBS replaced the rear wheel and since then, no more broken spokes and the clicking noise stopped.

On the Trek DS 8.3, I've got about 200 miles on it now and I am not breaking spokes on this one, but the clicking has started. On this bike, it is every time I push down my right foot, I get a click. No pedal, no click.

If I get off of the bike and just spin the crank around, no clicking. I have to be on it, pushing down on the pedal and moving.

Does this suggest something specific? Normal? Unusual? Thanks.
