I have a little over 14.5 mile each way commute (mostly flat, but a couple of miles of hills at the end) and I'm lucky if my Garmin says I burned 400 calories each way. And I think my Garmin is optimistic. I've done 40+ mile rides into the foothills and my Garmin still says I'm less than 1200 calories burned.
My Garmin shows on average 550-600 calories burned for an 11 mile commute. There are some pretty good hill climbs, so maybe that's the reason? Really not sure why all the discrepancies...
