Takara was one of the many Japanese manufactured brands that started flooding the US market during the 1970s bicycle boom. They produced a wide range of models and were typical of the Japanese bicycles of the era: well designed, manufactured and finished , though slightly dead ride quality compared to most European models. Early models were made in Japan, with production later switching to Taiwan. The brand was very famous for the girls in its ads and their T-shirts. They survived at least to 1988, but I have found no reference to them after that.
I do have specs for the the late 1970s, 3 speed model, but they are very limited in the description of brands and models.
