Santana Arriva (as first tandem)?

I found this sucker for sale at a shop a few hours away from me. Here is the description:

Santana Arriva. Used early 90's model. Medium 56/53 frame. Stock 7spd barcon shifters, Deore derailluers, Deore tandem crankset, Dia-Compe Canti brakes. metallic blue color in good shape. Mechanically good condition.

Priced at $1400.00 OBO

I think it would fit me as a captain at 5'9", but would it be too big in back for a 5'4" stoker? Sounds like a quality bike to start with for a pretty decent price. Any thoughts about this particular bike or its components?

Thanks!
