The shock can probably be repaired or replaced if you go to a bike shop. First, though, I think WalMart should repair or replace if it was only 4 days old. One other thought, if you buy a mountain bike to ride to work I would get a hardtail for the roads instead of a soft tail. You can probably find a decent bike shop entry level bike in the $250 range.
