Yup! I got big wide nice alloy pedals on my fancy carbon/alloy road bikes. They weigh a lot but I can't handle pedals like the MKS style or clips ins due to messed up ankles and lack of motor control. With smaller pedals, my ankles would roll and my foot would fall off the side of the pedal.
