+1 If I were you, I'd try placing skinny slicks on the mtb, before making a new purchase
I dropped 7 minutes off of my 14 mile loop doing this very thing. And it also buys you time while looking around for a new bike. Depending on where you live winter is just around the corner and riding (outside) time can go way down.
