I don't know about the 500, but I've got a 305 and 705, and the 705 will store *way* more rides than the 305 would.
Looking at my 705, it currently still has tracks from a October 2012 in it's memory, and I've probably ridden at least a thousand miles with it on.
I just don't know how a 500's storage compares to a 705's.
One thing you could do is bring a netbook with you on your trip. Of course, if you don't have said netbook, that becomes a pain ...
