I would pick an FX unless you plan on riding off-road a lot. I actually bought an 8.4 DS thinking the disc brakes and front suspension would be good to have. I happened to test-ride a 7.5 FX 2 days after I made the purchase on one of my regular routes and decided that its carbon fork and V-brakes were good enough. I exchanged the DS with the FX the next day. This may not apply to everyone, but I thought I'd share my personal experience.

[ADD] I'm sure the disc brakes will come in handy in incremental weather. I do ride in the rain, but not when it's pouring down.
