I got a chance to free the seized seat post, bring the seat up about 2.5 inches, and wring it out around the neighborhood this evening.
The bad news is that the B-72 is a badly wounded warrior now; the good news is that I'm not. [The thick leather didn't allow the post to get thru when it failed over a speed bump that I hit at about 10-15 mph...]
Apparently with enough time and attention to detail it is possible to rebuild the seat. I don't think its been done with a B72 or B66/68 yet but it is something I am contemplating. You might want to take a look at this thread:
