my strategy for buying cycling specific (expensive) clothing is to regularly visit local retailers and try stuff on, so that when an item my size goes on sale I snatch it up right away. yes, this is the long game, I know but it's pretty awesome to get something amazing for 50% it's original price. yeah it might take a year or so to snag a particular item, but it definitely pays to be a regular visitor to places like REI, Dick's Sporting Goods & Landry's Bike Shop in Natick, MA. and where "comfort" is important, trying something on is my personal preference. I got lucky this summer with a new rear trunk purchase. it wasn't on sale but it was perfect for the family camping trip. I had been casually shopping for another to add to the family fleet so when I found something "perfect" I didn't mind laying the $100. I pretty much shop for cars & tires the same way. next spring keep you eye out for XL winter tights for 1/2 price!
