Regarding the laptop, I am amazed it's not crashed more after such a treatment. With some effort you might be able to recover more data from the drive. Email data may be recovered from your email provider if you access your account directly from your browser.
Tricia is right... it's only stuff. Hey, you know what, you deserve a new MBP with retina display. Your insurance might actually cover the loss as it's traffic involved.
