Unless you are trying to say that a crankset should be called a crank instead of the plural cranks. I have always seen them referred to as plural cranks including on the Sheldon Brown website.
No, I'm saying that my RD2 cranks are stamped RD2R on the right crank arm and RD2L on the left crank arm. A crankset consists of a right crank arm plus a left crank arm. The crankset, itself, is a model RD2. Also, if you look really closely, the pictured cranks are also marked RD2R and RD2L.
