Death ride MTB, selling road bike madone

Friends think i am crazy, what say you. I have not really gotten into the whole road bike thing, but love doing challenges. I signed up this year for the death ride, but finally got the cash to get my dream bike, a Lynskey pro 29er hard tail. Wife says toys have to go, i got motorcycles also. So i am selling my trek madone di2. Anyways, i still really want to do the death ride as it is on my bucket list. Since it is a light Ti hard tail, if i put slicks on it, any reason i couldn't do it, do you think its doable or am i crazy. The only thing i think i will miss is the extra hand positions, but i am going to run some ergo grips with the bar ends. I am thinking with 11-36 gearing, climbing should be easier, especially since the bike is lighter then some road bikes. Also i feel a lot more comfortable decending at speeds with larger tires.
