I missed my Dawes so much that I went out in my shed last night after the wife and kids went to bed and installed a Simplex S061 rear derailleur, recently given to me, to make it at least partially operational. My Suntour rear derailleur is all fused up from winter riding and neglect. I also swapped the 6 speed winner pro freewheel for a 5 speed perfect. Frankenstein by flashlight.
It's alive!
(from my blue period)
Furnace Hill Brook, 25 years later still makes me think of Busch beer.
13 miles today in 50 minutes didn't seem too bad. 26 degrees and sunny, roads are a mess. The Dawes was a 1x5 today; 42 x 14-23. My Challenge Almanzos almost washed out on slushy ice a couple of times.
We're getting bombed with snow. I think this winter is a Pilgrim winter. Tomorrow 2-4 inches forecast. A banner year for sledding with the kids. Cycling not so much. California dreaming.
I tried to coax that ft derailleur into shifting on the way home to no avail. I wonder why.
