I assume you are looking at anything Shimano? They made a lot of versions, all should work.
One set sold a while back for $6 plus shipping. Several other sets have sold recently for $10. Are you using too many search words?
There is a set of 105s right now, with only one bid ($5). I hate to ruin it for that bidder.
On the OPs topic, it shouldn't work, but right now, I have Suntour 7 speed DT shifters, running a Suntour Superbe Pro 7 speed RD, with a seven speed Shimano freewheel, and KMC Z50 chain.
