Last Friday I went out to Palms Springs to ride. I dropped my girlfriend, my wife of 37 years, off at work and had 4+ hours to ride. With really no certain place in mind I headed West on 111 from Monterey Ave.. Along the way I hooked up with a husband and wife team that were going to ride up to the Palms Springs Tram. At the 16 mile mark we turned left from 111 on to Tram Way and started to climb. 700 hundred feet into the climb it went to a 6.6% grade and topped out at 15% in the next 3.8 miles up the road. The higher we went the steeper it got. That's the first time I've done a climb that long and that steep with no recovery points on it. I run a triple with an 11/28 in the rear and I kept wishing I had another gear. It was brutal, but I did it. I didn't time myself but I think I did it in 1 hour
. I'll probably do it again in March anybody care to join?
February has been good, 400+ miles, my first century and now the Tram Way. Not bad for a 65 year old 230 lb. Clyde.
