It works for me, but I also do some 15 or 20 minutes of yoga stretching at the turnaround.

A lot of people don't use the core abdominals effectively as part of their pedaling stroke.
For those guys, much of what is doing the work is the gluteals and the lower back muscles groups,
and it's not good for you as a steady diet.
