Here is one of my daily commuters. It's a Rocky Mountain frame, Surly 1x1 fork, mismatched handbuilt wheels from the 90's, Salsa handlebars from my fat bike, a Bontrager stem and crank from a road bike that was salvaged from a burned down garage, Surly 42t stainless chainring and 21t cassette cog, DMR tensioner, Shimano Deore v-brakes, and some studded Nokian tires. Stupidly comfortable bike. The frame I got off of ebay, and I've been led to believe it was a prototype frame. I'm not quite sure about that, but I can't find a matching production model. I actually have two of these, but one is too small so I built it into a mountain bike for a friend - after I had raced it for 6 months.

My commute is about 50 feet, so it mainly gets grocery duty. I have a green Surly Cross Check that gets ridden when I need to go any certain distance or get places quicker.
