I think you're extrapolating from your own experience. My ideal race weight is around 148, and going from there to 160 (8%) is nothing, it seems to happen in the blink of an eye. Ride less, eat less but not enough less, and bam, a month later I'm there. I know a lot of guys who see even bigger annual weight swings.

I'm not saying it's good, but I think it is common.
