a) who cares. Cyclists look like idiots all dressed up. We know it, everybody else knows it, don't let it get to you. Baggy clothes are no fun to ride in.

b) if it REALLY kills you (and again, I'm saying who cares) you can buy liners for regular shorts, so you'll get the benefits but you can hide the shorts under some gym shorts or something. Another alternative would be mountain bike shorts.
