This always works for me.

I have an early 70's Ibanez P-bass, made from some kind of Asian OAK that weighs about 60 lbs; this might work. I very nearly beat a guy to death with it one night at a gig, but fortunately, I was restrained. (The guy was being more than just a total dick.)
Yep. Learned that it's not safe anywhere...even 30 ft from the courts I was coaching on.

As for the heavy bass...been there. My first was a Peavey T-40 (I think that was the model) anyway, the 40 had to be the weight. SOLID OAK I think.
