If that really is all you did....
What happens when you squeeze the lever, does it go all the way into the bar w/o the brake biting?
In that case, you have too much slack in the system. You need to undo the cable clamp, pull the cable tighter, (= pull the end away from the clamp, downwards) then tighten the clamp again.
