Is the base allez the same frame as the e5 smartweld because I have heard that's a really good race bike. If its the same then I say the allez is a good buy. My trek retails for 950 or something and has sora shifters and they are fine. I race with the bike and it shifts, not the best, but for a first bike it's a
perfectly good starting point.
