I've been trying to stay hyper hydrated, exclude what are known to have purines.. A lot of diet cherry juice (low quality, concentration) making it up in volume. I tolerate the allopurinol...
But when it gets bad, lemon juice works very well, and a gross but extremely effective one is baking soda dissolved in water... Just not at the same time.
Hope this helps, as gout sux...
I cut out as much gluten as possible, since beef prices have gone nut's, it's been easy to eat less red meat, and I try to eat more fruits and veggies.
I work outside here in Tucson, so I stay pretty hydrated already, but I drink more water and less soda now when I'm home.
If I get it again, I'll try the lemon juice ( I already pack dried tart cherries in my ride snacks), and the baking soda.
What was really bad (besides the pain) was how much my ankle swelled up. it took over a month before I could ride the road bike because with clipless pedals, my ankle would hit the crank arm.
