My Salsa Vaya came with some 40c Schwalbe Marathon Plus Tour tires that are great but most of my riding is on very smooth paved trails and I want something a little smoother and faster. I currently weigh in at 340# which is why I'm wondering if I should have gone with the 32 width instead of the 28. I'll just pump the 28s up to about 130psi and I'm sure they'll be fine but I'm also interested in feedback since I can return them and get 32s as long as I do so before mounting them.
Uh, max pressure applies for tire and rim combination. The wider the tire the lower max pressure allowable on a given rim. Finding max pressure for your rims with your tires might be difficult.
Fortunately, the wider the tire the lower pressure required to support a load. There are pressure calculators for a given tire pressure out there on the web. Pick one and see...
